Dinners This Week

Ah yes, welcome to another Monday facing down another week filled with mealtimes and family members who require sustenance.

Nothing sounds good to me today. Nothing. Alas, I don’t think my family (or my stomach, to be honest) would appreciate it if I served nothing this week.

Dinners for the Week of November 3-9

  • Cider Braised Pot Roast with Crispy Sage Potatoes: We’re having friends over this weekend, and a pot roast is something I can make in advance to maximize time with them while minimizing time in the kitchen. I’ll probably serve this with a simple side salad.

Okay, that’s all I can muster on this Monday morning. What are you eating this week?

  1. I still have every intention of making that pot roast, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

This week is a total cheat for meal planning. I’m traveling so meals are “what I feel like eating in the moment”. Last night I wasn’t super hungry and no restaurants were standing out to me, so I went to the grocery store and got a slice of pizza from the deli. 10/10 would do again.

  2. My mind is a blank- I have no dinner ideas for the week, and here it is Monday, and we all have to eat. ARRRRG!

Those cauliflower chickpea bowls sound delicious, but I’m not sure if my daughter would like them. I might live life on the edge and try them anyway.

  3. I literally cannot swallow green beans, and I can’t do a lot of ginger because of a bad experience with some ginger chicken when I was ten – I feel so far away from you Suzanne! the cider-braised pot roast sounds amazing. I can’t seem to get enough of anything with sage and rosemary at the moment (like pregnancy cravings, but for menopause? *shrug*) I am leaving Thursday for the weekend and Matt is leaving Saturday for two weeks and is out for a work dinner tonight so I’m guessing scrambled eggs, salmon, and then salmon leftovers. i have some Brussels sprouts that need to be cooked and I think I’m getting potatoes today to make the sage potatoes, thank-you!

    • Okay, taking notes for when you inevitably come visit me. (“I literally cannot swallow” is how I feel about tomatoes, so I get it.)

I am feeling really sad for past Allison and her bad ginger experience. Ginger is so lovely, why would it treat you so bad?

      MENOPAUSE CRAVINGS.

  4. I don’t yet know what we’re going to eat this week because it’s a Monday night chore, but I do know that last week we deviated from our meal plan because I WAS TIRED AND DONE WITH LIFE and then it threw off our entire schedule and it was terrible. I don’t know how some people either don’t meal plan or create a plan and then don’t follow it. Now we have extra carrots and asparagus in our house and what are we supposed to do with it?!

  5. I’m at the end of a 3-day low-fiber diet in preparation for a colonoscopy so I am eating strange things (for me) like white pasta (skillet mac and cheese) and mashed carrots tonight. Then I fast tomorrow. Noah is going to make baked ziti for himself and Beth. Wednesday people are going to eat whatever they can find because I will be coming out of anesthesia. Thursday we go back to normal fare and I’ll make a white bean-celery stew. Friday is pizza night.

    • How odd / fun to deviate so wildly from your normal! I hope today’s fast goes smoothly and that your colonoscopy prep and procedure are swift. Hooray for intestinal health!

  6. Yum – that cauliflower chickpea bowl sounds great. I’d need to add chicken to it but that’s easy to do. This week I am making chicken tikka masala w/ cauliflower, Greek turkey burgers, and then we are getting take out another day. We had the chicken wild rice soup that you sent us last month over the weekend (I had froze it when it arrived) and it was SO GOOD!!!

  7. The weather shifting over to “chilly” has me wanting to eat all the things all the time … but it’s a general “I’m hungry” with no real specific leanings. Which means meals this week may be “fun” to plan, lol … I think we’re going to try and do one last pepper sauce pasta before the pepper plants succumb to a freeze?

  8. The salmon and green beans looks good, but likely too much sugar for my husband (hoisin sauce). That cauliflower and chickpea dish might make an appearance around here, yay! And I think my husband would be thrilled if I made a pot roast…it may even rain on Wednesday, which would make it a welcome treat. You are performing a public service here, Suzanne.
