Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. I want you to feel comfortable visiting and participating in my little corner of the internet, so, to the best of my knowledge, here’s an overview of the information that may be collected when you visit Suzanne Day by Day (https://suzannedaybyday.com) and how it might be used.
Comments
The best thing about blogging is the interactions I have with you. When you make a comment, WordPress collects the information you enter in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser information. This helps with spam detection.
Akismet, an anti-spam service, checks comments to help keep unwanted or harmful content off the site.
If you use Gravatar, an anonymized version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar to display your profile picture alongside your comment. You can read Gravatar’s privacy policy here.
Your approved comment and any associated profile picture will be visible to other visitors.
Cookies
Like most websites, Suzanne Day by Day uses cookies to help recognize you when you visit and improve your browsing experience. For more information about cookies the FTC has a good explanation here.
You may see a cookie consent banner at the bottom of this blog, which I provide through a plugin called WPConsent. This allows you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. I’m sorry, I know it’s annoying.
WordPress uses cookies to remember preferences and support website functionality. For instance, if you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address, and website so you don’t have to enter that information on subsequent visits.
Google Analytics may also use cookies to collect information about how visitors use Suzanne Day by Day, and I can use these insights to make improvements to this blog.
Google Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to help me understand how visitors find and use the blog. Google collects information about website activity, including pages visited, time spent on this site, and browser and device information. Google Analytics may also use cookies to collect this information.
I can use these reports to glean insights about the behavior and interests of my visitors, and to subsequently make improvements to the blog. You can learn more about how Google handles this information in Google’s Privacy Policy.
Other Sites That Might See Your Data
I do not sell your personal information.
This site uses several services to help it operate:
- WordPress and Jetpack provide website functionality and related services.
- Akismet checks comments for spam.
- Google Analytics processes website usage information.
- CrowdSignal processes responses if its forms or surveys are used on the site.
- MailPoet manages email subscriptions and newsletter delivery, if you choose to subscribe.
These services process information as needed to provide their respective functions.
Data Retention
Comments and their associated information are retained indefinitely. This allows WordPress and Akismet to recognize and manage future comments and help prevent spam.
Any information you submit through my Ask Me Anything form is kept only as long as needed to respond to your question and for any reasonable follow-up. If you don’t want me to use your name in a response, just let me know and I will keep you anonymous. I will never share your email address in a response to a question.
If you subscribe to email updates, MailPoet manages your subscription information. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in emails.
Your Privacy Rights
You can request a copy of the personal information I have about you or ask me to delete it. This includes information you’ve submitted through comments or the Ask My Anything form.
It’s possible that I may need to retain some information for administrative, legal, or security purposes, which we could discuss on a case-by-case basis.
Where Your Data Goes
Visitor comments may be checked through Akismet’s automated spam detection service. Google Analytics processes website usage information. Other services mentioned above may process information when you interact with their features.
Ask Me Anything
My Ask Me Anything form allows you to send me a question or suggest a post topic. When you submit the form, Jetpack collects your email address and the question or message you provide so I can read and respond to you.
This information allows me to respond to your question or create posts based on your suggestions. I typically like to credit the person who asked a question when I post about it, but I’m happy to withhold your name if you prefer; just let me know. I am also happy to share your URL if you give me permission to do so. I will not share your email address in my response.
Jetpack may process and store submitted information as part of providing the form service. You can learn more in Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
Advertising
In an effort to see if I can get this blog to pay for itself, I have begun displaying advertisements. These ads are not personalized based on your browsing history or personal interests.
Third-party advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to display and measure advertisements. These technologies may collect information such as your browser type, device information, and general website activity. You can manage your cookie preferences through the cookie consent options on this site.
I also occasionally use affiliate links; I participate in the Amazon Services LLC and Bookshop.org affiliate programs. This means that if you click on a link to a product and make a purchase, I get a very small commission.
Thank you for reading Suzanne Day by Day!
