Wish List Wednesday: Gift Ideas for a Tween/Teen Girl

I mentioned yesterday that I have only the vaguest of ideas for holidays gifts for anyone this year. What better way to solidify those plans than by doing a little online shopping? Well, or at least online putting-into-my-cart-ing.

All images in this post are from amazon.com, except for the 3Doodler Candy, which is from Target.com. Links to amazon products are affiliate links.

The one thing I KNOW I am getting Carla is this drying hairbrush tool.

She’s recently gotten into crocheting. I don’t know a single thing about crocheting, but I love this kit with a bunch of brightly-colored yarns.

Oh! Or this little crochet project kit, where you can make CATS. I mean, this is enough reason for me to want to learn to crochet.

On a recent family trip, Carla noticed this board game and immediately requested it for Christmas.

We’ve got kind of a cat theme going, so why not lean in? This book about cats in myth and folklore sounds perfect for Carla.

I don’t really know if she NEEDS this little mindfulness Yeti, but it is SUPER cute.

Carla adores popping boba, and I found this great variety pack with different flavors. I would pair it with a package of fun fruit tea.

I tried to find a boba Jellycat and failed, but I did come across this bagel with shmear, which is darling. I don’t get the Jellycat craze, and certainly don’t understand why they are so expensive, but they are very soft and very cute.

Speaking of trends I don’t understand: Carla would love these squishy sticks of butter.

She has been wanting a little Polaroid camera for a long time. My biggest objection is buying film once she goes through what it comes with… but maybe that’s something she can spend her allowance on?

In terms of vintage/retro gadgets that are back in style, I think she would get a lot of use out of this MP3 player.

I’m pretty sure this flip book kit was in the running for last Christmas. It didn’t make the cut, but I think it’s SO cool.

Or maybe she’d like this create-your-own-filmstrip kit?

Carla and her cousin have gotten really into collecting Pokémon cards, and they require special storage. It’s amazing how quickly one can fill up a binder with these cards. Carla is in need of a new binder, like this one. Probably I would pair it with a bunch of Pokémon cards; apparently the Dollar Store is the best place to get those.

Speaking of Pokémon, Carla spotted this Pikachu in a store somewhere (Target?) and asked me to put it on her Christmas list. She is a sucker for an animatronic anything.

Ah, yes, it was Target. She spotted this 3D candy pen while we were there and wants that, too.

Every now and again, Carla dips into a bit of a witchy vibe. I think she would love these oracle cards.

Carla continues to love miniatures, and building things; this build-it-yourself greenhouse is the exact intersection of those two loves.

To that end, she would adore this Mini Brand bakery.

This feels like a good start for brainstorming. Are any of these items on your list for the tweens in your life? What is the Hot Gift among the tweens you know?

  1. OMG, you MUST get her the crochet cat set and then post the pictures after she makes them. I have zero interest in crochet, I don’t have a cat, I’m not shopping for any tween girls but I want that set!

  2. The only early teen girl I know is my niece and all she wants is romance novels.

Those crochet cats are super cute. North has done kits like that and enjoyed them.

When we were at the beach last summer all the shops had those squishy sticks of butter. I don’t get it at all but they seem popular.

  3. My guys are into Pokeman and the cards. Gold cards were Cam’s favorite gift this summer. Carson got the flip book thing. It was a hit but I think now is sitting on the shelf. Love the cat theme and the cool brush. The camera is pretty cool idea, maybe with a gift card or a bunch of extra packs of the film?

  4. Wait, is that real butter? oooh – I clicked on the link and it’s a squishy. Okay. I was sort of excited at the thought of rainbow butter to make rainbow cookies, but I guess it wouldn’t stay rainbow colour after you mix it.

We travelled for the holidays the past two years so we did minimal presents (our friend played Santa and left them under out tree while we were away). Now this year we aren’t travelling, so I guess we have to really think about what our present strategy is….

    • Well now I want rainbow butter to make rainbow cookies! Surely if such a thing existed it would have resolved the problem of muddled colors, lol.

Minimal presents sounds IDEAL. I am always threatening to completely ban gift giving around her, but so far it hasn’t stuck.

  5. I love when you post gift ideas. That book nook caught my eye! I think my daughter would really enjoy that.
Pokemon is a HUGE hit in our house. And yes to having a dedicated album for them.

    • WHY Elisabeth. I do not get Pokemon. And my eyes glaze over the instant my precious child starts to talk about earth types and lightning evolutions and snooorrrrreeee. I WANT her to talk to me! I WANT to share her interests! And yet…

  6. You always have the best ideas, and I’m so mad my daughter is slightly too old for most of them. BUT! I did make a note of a few- the cat crochet set, the oracle cards, and the mindfulness yeti. I think she might like those!

  7. tween and teen girls are the easiest to shop for. WHAT DON’T THEY LIKE? I am getting Dorothy a skincare fridge stocked with Rhode products**eye roll**

  8. Once you’ve been bitten by the crochet bug, yarn is always a good idea! And that cat kit may have to make my list 😀 Also: Cat Earth has been lingering on my Amazon list, as well as a couple cat card games that look so fun.

  9. I have no idea about teen girls. Well, my godchild is one but I have established its book for Christmas so I read a few and then pick the one. And I usually ad some craft kit. I think those are always a great gift because they can be creative a dn away from screens and if they like it they continue if not they tried something new.

  10. You do the best gift guides. I got Eve a little photo printer for Christmas a few years ago and she and her friends made themselves a whole yearbook (it was Covid). She is a pretty good craft kit user, but I think I did get her one kit for crocheting little animals and I’m not sure she ever used it, I’ll have to check. No idea what the hot gift for tweens (or anyone) is. I could have sworn I saw Cabbage Patch Dolls on a shelf the other day – that can’t be right, can it?

  11. So many cool things here! The crochet set and the cats in folklore book would be perfect gifts for this 50-something too, hehe…

The mini greenhouse is super cool too!

  12. My 10 years old would love many of these! I don’t get why squishy is sooo popular but I keep buying them. And love all the cats theme gifts. I want them for myself.
