Tuesday Shoesday is a thing, right?
Okay, do you remember when I waxed lyrical about these orthotic flip flops awhile back? (We can all thank Jen for the recommendation. Jen has the best recommendations.) (I am eventually going to buy a sous vide because of her, I know it.) (Oh my gosh, I should not have looked up the sous vide because it is hugely on sale.)
HEY. Let’s get it together, Suzanne. It is Tuesday SHOESday, not Tuesday SousVide-day because that would be ridiculous. We are talking about SHOES. Magical orthotic flip flops that I bought in August.
The thing is, I LOVE THE FLIP FLOPS. I wear them all the time. They have supplanted my sneakers as my inside-the-house shoes. And maybe this is obvious, but it is hugely preferable to slide on a pair of flip flops than to have to put on socks and then untie and tie sneakers, which is what I have been doing for YEARS since I developed plantar fasciitis. (And, despite acupuncture and foot stretching and horrifically painful shots – yes, multiple shots – at the podiatrist’s office, I feel like Wearing Shoes In The House is the thing that finally kicked my plantar fasciitis to the curb.)
I have just realized this is kind of a meandering, ridiculous excuse for a blog post, so feel free to pop back in next time if you’re bored. I am going to continue typing, such is the dearth of viable blog post topics occurring to me lately, but that doesn’t mean you need to continue reading.
This is going to sound like a non-sequitur: like many bloggers, I participate in the Amazon affiliate program, which basically means I get a few pennies if someone clicks on an Amazon link on my blog and then goes on to buy something. Anyway, Amazon has noted my intense affection for the magical flip flops and keeps recommending that I link to them on my blog. This repeated prodding has had two – well, now three – results: 1. I get annoyed that my computer is paying such minute attention to everything I do and say which makes me feel recalcitrant and want to stubbornly NOT do what Amazon is wheedling me to do, and 2. I keep seeing these flip flops and how reasonably priced they are ($33!!!!!), and now 3. I am buying A THIRD PAIR.
You may or may not remember me mentioning that I like these flip flops so much that I bought a second pair – an outdoor pair, which has become my go-to flippy floppy. The thing is, I somehow bought the wrong size in the second pair. Gourd help me, I thought I accidentally bought a size 9, because that’s in the realm of possibility; I normally wear a size 8.5, but I size up in sneakers because that’s apparently what you have to do. Turns out I did not buy a size 9 or even a size 9.5; no, I bought a size 11. What? Why? How? And why did I ever think they fit even remotely well?!? (They are such comfy flip flops I did not even notice they were nearly three sizes too big.)
Anyway, when a guest came over this weekend, a guest who also has Foot Issues, I had her try them on and they fit and she loves them. So now SHE has a pair and I need a new pair to wear outdoors. (Yes, our weather is – currently – still mild enough that I am wearing flip flops. I realize this cannot last.) And now I am buying a third pair. I don’t think this is how the affiliate thing is supposed to work; I’m not supposed to be influenced into buying things for myself. But, whatever. I love the shoes, I want the shoes, I own multiples of the shoes.
It’s not weird to like something so much that you buy multiples of that thing. It’s not. You do it, right?
I have multiples of so many things. There’s this one white T-shirt from Madewell. Do I have four? I think I have four. I have two pairs of these dressier but also orthotic sandals (black and “Cuban sand”) and have worn them for more than a year and still love them. I have four or five pairs of black high-rise Salutation leggings from Athleta, and just bought a pair in navy; I wear leggings pretty much every day. I have at least three pairs of these skinny jeans, none of which fit, but which could, at some unknown point in the future. I must have a supply of these gel pens on hand at all times, not that I even handwrite things all that often, and they have a disturbing tendency to disappear. (Perhaps they are hanging out with the spoons?)
Hmm. This is beginning to sound a little pathological and I have only just scratched the surface. But I swear it’s LOGICAL and SMART. Especially if you can buy several of something on a good sale. See? I am SAVING MONEY.
I’m totally on board with multiple buying. Having foot problems myself… bunions, ugh…. if I find a pair of something that fits well and feels good I’m all over it. And yes, I wore a pair of slip on Merrills in the house tor a year and cured my plantar fasciitis as well.
😊
Ugh – bunions! I’m sorry! But yay for no more plantar fasciitis!
LOL I am the only person buying G2G bars with my discount code, so I totally get this.
LOL. Glad we are both easily influenced by our own purchases.
You don’t have to tell me that wearing shoes 24/7 is gold for PF – not because I have it but because my husband and all of his sisters do. When you find something that helps with PF you go ALL IN, you hear me, ALL IN. Same with the perfect white shirt, leggings, and pens. You’re with friends here.
Thanks for the support, Birchie! I will hold my head up high as I continue to buy more of the same thing, lol.
“I don’t think this is how the affiliate thing is supposed to work; I’m not supposed to be influenced into buying things for myself.” – lol!
Oh I buy multiples of things all the time. I have so many leggings, skorts, tanks, etc., that are in different colours but the exact same style. What can I say, if it works, it works. I support your shopping!
My husband also wears orthodic sandals in the house and he hasn’t had a bout of PF since 2001, so that says something.
IT’S CALLED A CAPSULE WARDROBE, right Nicole?!?! But you’re so right. If it works, it works.
Love hearing that your husband has been PF free for so long! That is very encouraging!
Hmm! I might click through your link and buy a pair of those sandals. I also have to wear shoes in the house because of PF, and my “indoor sandals” are falling apart.
I think I need to get better at buying multiples. I tend to under-buy, and then wish I had more.
It is really a bummer when you find something you love and then you CAN’T buy it again, for whatever reason.
Yes to wearing supportive shoes around the house! It helps my foot issues. Piggy-backing off your post: Have you found any cute dress shoes that are both supportive and for colder weather? I need some close-toed shoes for an upcoming wedding and don’t have any solid ideas yet. Heels are out of the question. Flats can be tricky too. Many don’t have any support. Yet I’d prefer something that doesn’t look like an orthotic shoe. Maybe ankle boots? A wedge?
Yes! Wedges ALL the way! I love wedges. My go-to dress shoes are a pair of black patent wedges. I think they might be these ones: https://tinyurl.com/2w22vp5m
They are good and don’t hurt my feet, but I wouldn’t necessarily say they are supportive.
I am also eying a pair of navy wedges by Aerosole, because I am hopeful they have more arch support: https://amzn.to/3XPRqXq
I even have supportive slippers for around the house in the winter. I am never without arch support and my PF is generally well-maintained. Woot woot!
I have the same sandals in black and brown. I know they work, so I need multiple pairs.
Of course you’re saving money and your sanity by buying what works when you can get a good price on it. I need sandals and shoes with good arch support, so thanks for the suggestions.
I also find something and buy multiples of it if I can. A couple of summers ago I found a dress at a boutique when I was shopping with some friends. I loved it so much that I found the website for the company and have since ordered 3 more dresses. They are made of a fabric that does not wrinkle so are perfect for travel.
I also have many Pilot G-2 0.38mm pens in black and blue.
I bought those orthotic sandals on your recommendation and also love them! In fact, I almost wore them to my 50 year high school reunion, but they weren’t quite dressy enough. Close though!
I bought those flip flops as well for my PF in-house shoes and love them. I also bought a pair of the Hadal style sling back sandals to wear out of the house, which I love even more than the flip flops!
I have been lucky (knock on wood!) to not have foot problems so far, but if I do, I will try those! I definitely do buy multiples of things; like my grandpappy used to always say, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Just go with what works and why not have one in every color? I do this with running shoes, especially when they are on sale, but unfortunately often I cannot find the same style at some point, which even cements my decision even more to buy many pairs at the same time! HOWEVER, I need to remind myself sometimes that there is a fine line between hoarding and being smart. A fine line, sister!
I don’t necessarily tend to buy multiple of the EXACT same thing, but I DEFINITELY am one who buys multiples of something in different variations. Like, if I find a t-shirt that I love, or PANTS that actually feel nice, I immediately look to see if I can get it in any other colors, etc. I guess it always feels like such a win when certain items actually work (bc we all know shopping can be…hard.). So I have no shame in doing that!
I keep buying the same wool shirt from Beans as the old ones wear out, but I don’t always get rid of the old ones right away, so I have multiples for a while until the older one is completely worn out. Oh and for the past couple years I have two colors going, so I guess there are always two now.
I recently bought myself three pairs of the same flats because I cannot find flats that I can wear without them hurting my feet and these don’t, so these will be my flats forever. (Don’t buy them, they have no arch support, they are my shoes for funerals and Grown Up Meetings and not for wearing for fun. My arches hurt when I am done.)
Of course it’s not weird to buy multiples of something you love that works for you. It’s necessary!!
I can’t do toe thongs, but I am at this very moment wearing my indoor croc sandals – I have two pairs of outdoor croc sandals. And five pairs of Torrid leggings. And six of the same black bra. And I just wrote almost an entire blog post about dentist appointments. So zero judgment, obvi.
My husband has a phrase: If you like it, get it in every color! So, yes, I love buying in multiples.
I’ve not tried this particular orthotic sandal that you love, but I added a pair to my shopping cart: SO YOU ARE WELCOME for the pennies coming your way. 🤣
I’m laughing about your wearing a size 11 and not noticing…they must be really comfy.
I definitely have bought things in multiples when I found something that I really, really liked (best example: if you find a good fitting bra, buy multiples LOL).
I remember you mentioning these flip flops and how comfortable they are… and I’d be tempted to get a pair (esp. at this reasonable price), but I am pretty much married to my Birks.
