Happy Monday, Internet!
I know you are anxiously awaiting (HA) my Super-de-Duper Vacation Post all about Asheville. But it is LONG. With many many photos. So it is taking me ten years to write.
Also, I have work to do.
Plus, this weekend was my husband’s Great Big 30th Birthday Celebration: Part Two. We spent Friday partying with about 20 medical residents. (Who was at the hospital, is my question?)
Then on Saturday, we went to Ikea (prounounced “eye-key” by our navigator) and spent hours wandering through neatly arranged rooms full of furniture we don’t need… searching for the perfect BILLY bookcase with the matching OLSBO door… sitting in fifty different desk chairs until we picked the VERNER option… deciding for, then against, the FIGGJO, DROMMAR, KONCIS, and more… realizing that it was suddenly an hour later than we thought it was and we were about to be late for dinner… getting right to the warehouse portion of the store and discovering that the BILLY bookcase in white was not in stock… and leaving with thirty assorted odds and ends that we didn’t need in the first place.
But then… Sunday…
Sunday, we went here:
With these (please excuse the hang-nailed thumb):
We wore our team colors. Only a few people booed at us (and no one spit on us!).
We sat in great seats with this fabulous view:
And watched some of this:
We were shocked and delighted when we were ahead (it was short-lived):
We ate stadium food and sunburned only the left sides of our faces.
After we left, we ate one of these (okay, only my husband ate one of those – I had a much healthier meals of chicken wings and curly fries):
Yes, there are fries IN the sandwich.
It was a great time.
But now we are home for longer than three days, and I am Getting Serious about not only eating better (see: no more sandwiches with fries in them) but about exercising as well. (I think I may rescue my old nemesis Jillian Michaels from her dusty shelf.)
Because after Asheville and this little football weekend? My scale HATES me.
By the way? We went back to “Eye-Key” after the game to pick up our BILLY bookcase. My husband will put it together today. (I know you were super worried.) We also managed to pick up some of these:
And some of these:
And some of these:
I promise that a really long, possibly horrifically boring Asheville Recap with lots of pretty pictures is coming soon.
How was your weekend?

I was thinking about ya’ll this weekend! Looks like you had GREAT seats! 🙂 I hope you had fun in the ‘burgh – where did you eat dinner and stay? (if you don’t mind me asking for future reference)
So you’re a Browns fan?!? Excellent! I’m not, particularly, but I am a huge Colt McCoy fan (went to college in Austin, so I tend to follow great UT players). I was hoping the Browns would upset the Steelers, even though I didn’t find it likely. =/ I hate the Steelers! (OK, hate is a strong word for someone who doesn’t really care all that much.)
Sounds like you had an awesome weekend! It’s good to know that those residents occasionally do get out of the hospital and soak up a little bit of life :0) Hopefully all the patients survived the night of no doctors.
Our big football game is this weekend (college football) so your pictures got me totally psyched!!!
My goodness, that sandwich looks good. I would eat that now if someone wanted to bring me one.
Go Browns! They’re my second team, behind the Seahawks.
Also, ugh, Jillian (that bitch) and I need to have a meeting this week, too.
You are the best wife ever. My husband would collapse with excitement if I scored him tickets to a football game.
As for the weight thing, two weeks of regular/non vacation/non football food and you’ll be back to normal again!
What a fantastic weekend! I love wandering in IKEA, though it does always take 100 times longer than you think it is going to.
Husband’s dream is to see a pro NFL game. I need to make that dream come true one of these days.
Looks like a fun weekend BUT you know what I would say about frys PERIOD, much less in a burger!!! 😉 It looks like you had loads of fun! How awesome to just get away!
Ummmmm, that sandwich looks like my dream come true. Too bad I’m trying to drop a couple more pounds before the weekend. Boo.
That sounds like such a fun time. My husband and I like to browse stores we can’t currently afford and play “If I won the lottery, what would we buy” game. It’s amusing.
Also, is that a Parmanthy Brothers (spelling??) sandwich?? We ate at a place in Chicago that has a similar sandwich and it is super yummy!
Can’t wait for your Asheville recap
What a fun weekend. I’m always jealous of people who actually make purchases at Ikea. I walk in, immediately get overwhelmed and buy nothing.
🙂
I have the billy bookcase! The anti-topple device is certainly needed!
I love those Pfeifahwhattheheckaretheycalled pastries! They taste of rum and chocolate. Mmm. I used to get them in Toronto Ikea all the time. These days I cannot go to Ikea. There just isn’t one in NYC south of Harlem, lol!
Your husband sounds really popular. Partying with 20 residents must have been a blast. I really hope my husband socializes like that…I kind of have my doubts, however. 😛
I love your pumpkins on top of the page, by the way!
And I used way too many exclamation marks…
Looks like a great weekend! I’m excited to hear about/see your Asheville weekend recap, so please don’t forget 🙂
Oh gosh, YUM. My mouth literally just watered at the Swedish fish. Haha. (I’ve been stuck in a waiting room for hours and am starving!)
Also, you just perfectly described my every trip ever to Eye-Kea and Target. I’m laughing really hard right now. (On the inside, due to being in aforementioned waiting room. That would be creepy.)
I love IKEA. I have to avoid it most of the time since it’s like a crack-house for me and I get in trouble with the budget-minded mister. Ditto Costco.
In terms of eating better, one of my simplest ‘diet’ methods is that I buy all the ingredients to make sweet things, but refuse to buy any sweet desserts. That way I can let my lazy streak triumph without feeling like I’m depriving myself.
That said, those snacks look great… sigh.
Sounds like a great weekend! And I LOVE those Anna’s cookies! Yum!
