When you have spent an entire weekend cleaning every inch of your apartment in preparation for your in-laws’ arrival… and they have just called to let you know that they are at the gate of your apartment complex… and you have just taken a long, satisfied look around your apartment…
Do not, under any circumstances, open the microwave.
It just might be splattered with exploded tomato sauce.
ohh my I would have something happen like that. Although I have to admit that I HATE cleaning the microwave. I don’t know why, I just do.
I hope you have fun with your in-laws!!
EW, I hate that! Luckily I live with someone who is anal retentive and freaks out at the site of any splatter in the microwave…otherwise mine wouldn’t look so great either…
Ugh. I hate cleaning the microwave. Have fun with you in laws!
Haha the freaking microwave… don’t look, don’t do anything!!!
I also hate cleaning in preparation for guests… I am always thinking the house is a complete disaster and am never satisfied! Enjoy your visit with the in-laws:)
Haha, here’s to hoping they don’t want to mic anything. Have fun and yay for a spotlight house. I hate doing it, but love the results.
I always forget the blasted microwave too!! You can keep them distracted, they have no reason to look in there! LOL.
I don’t clean my microwave very often. It’s one of those out of sight, out of mind things. I know it’s gross. It still doesn’t make me remember to clean it. Kind of makes you wish there was a self cleaning button.
I’m pretty sure our microwave is the most disgusting part of our house. I clean the bathrooms and sinks like a maniac, but the microwave? Total disaster area.
The ILs haven’t been here to visit yet but I ALREADY am having panic attacks about cleaning in preparation for their visit. My MIL is a superwoman neat freak who never sits still. My home will never been clean enough for her, I know it! (Luckily, she is lovely, so she would hopefully not judge me… too much.)
Quick trick for microwave cleaning: Fill a bowl about 2/3 full of water and add a generous dash of white vinegar. Stick it in the microwave and zap it for about 5 minutes — or however long it takes your microwave to boil water. Let it sit in there for a little bit. The steam from the hot water and the vinegar should condense on the sides of your microwave and you should easily be able to just wipe down the insides!
Close the door, and put the microwave in the closet. No one will ever notice.
Well, why are they poking around in your microwave anyway? Nosy busybodies! Oh, what’s that you say? They wanted to microwave something?
No excuse.
p.s.~ Eminem is in a wheat field, because that’s where the magic happens. Plus, after his recent discovery of the agony windows bring, he’s started suffering from a fear of houses.
Haha I LOVE it! I’m learning a new trick around the house to get things done. There are certain chores that my husband, despite (what passes as) a real effort to learn, cannot do, namely iron his own freaking shirts. They take me 10 minutes a shirt (am I slow?), and I HATE doing it. So I trade him one shirt for one other chore. Cleaning the microwave? Is a PERFECT chore to give a clueless man! As is cleaning the oven, vacuuming, changing the sheets, etc.
Hopefully, the in-laws have no need to open the microwave ever. Because you will cook them delicious stove cooked meals and go out to fancy dinners. They won’t even know what a microwave is. Haha
Been there
Hi! I just stumbled on your blog and love it so far! Also, I said ME TOO! to about 75% of the things on your list of 100 things about yourself. I also rarely clean my microwave.
Looking forward to following you!
[Laughing] I can SO relate. The first time my in-laws came to visit after we got married, I spent DAYS cleaning the house. My husband would come home from the hospital and I’d be on my knees on the stairs hand-wiping every frickin’ banister. He kept saying, “You don’t need to do all this. Relax!”
Then his Mom walked in and said, “Wow, everything is so clean. I know you can take good care of my son.”
I hope you were able to block tackle any attempts on her part to open that microwave! 😉
I love the water and vinegar tip from an earlier commenter. I’ll have to try that.
