So normally I like to save up all my randomness and dole it out to you in little bursts. But I have tried to write about three different posts so far today and all SUCK.
So Randomosity it is!! Again! Two posts in a row!!
I know you are just as ecstatic about this as I am. So let’s jump in.
* Sometimes I feel like a randomosity bullet is wasted in a randomosity post… Like it could be worth of a full post in itself. But then I try to write a full post around it, and it SUCKS.
I think my problem is either a) my post ideas are sucky or b) I am incapable of writing short posts.
Let’s all mull over which of those is more apt. And if the answer is (a), well I suppose you are a masochist because why would you be here to read all the suckiness?
Wow, that bullet was both kind of circular and also surprisingly self-aggrandizing.
* Something I’ve been wondering lately: Are you friends with any exes on Facebook? My husband had two serious girlfriends before he met me. He is still friends with both of them. Not close friends, but friends. I mean, I have been to dinner with both of them – once, with both of them TOGETHER. (They are both married, by the way.) He is friends with both of these gals on Facebook.
I had… more serious boyfriends than that. Three in high school, three in college before I met my husband. I would not say I am friends with any of them, but I’m on good terms with a couple of them. The others… Well, I would speak to them if I ran into them and I would be friendly… But that’s it. I have no real interest in them or their lives.
I am friends with two of them on Facebook: one because I am also friends with his brother and his mom on Facebook; one who no longer digs women, if you know what I mean. And that is quite enough.
I definitely know the temptation to Facebook a guy you used to go out with and see what his wife looks like… does he have any kids… does his life measure up to yours…
But the whole thing just makes me queasy.
These guys were part of The Time Before My Husband. So why would I want to see updates about their lives… or, worse, have my whole life on display for them to pore over? Yuck.
What is your Exbook policy? Are you “friends” with any of your exes on Facebook? Is your spouse/significant other Facebook friends with any exes?
* In housekeeping news… Anastasia and I are busily figuring out the whole fitness group thing. We plan to have something ready by November 1. So keep an eye on this space (AND in your inboxes if you expressed specific interest) for more details.
* And because I know you are deeply invested in the minutiae of my life… We have STILL not made our Christmas airline ticket reservations. Nor has my husband figured out the code-thingy that will allow me to post his photos on my blog. Things happen slowly around these parts. For instance, I did about 25 loads of laundry on Sunday and folded and put away everything except my husband’s pajama pants, work-out shirts, and socks. Those things – which either go in a spot I’m not aware of or require special folding techniques that I cannot master – are sitting on the couch in neat folded piles. (Well, except for the socks, which I CANNOT MASTER.) They will likely stay there for many days until either my husband gives in to my nagging or I get sick of their faces and shove them into the closet somewhere. Or possibly back into the laundry bin from whence they came. Check back next week to see if they are still languishing on the couch.
* This morning, my husband broke one of the Cardinal Rules of Our Marriage. He usually wakes me gently before he leaves and we go through this sickening little ritual of kisses and I love yous. But today, he leaned in for a kiss as I was saying “I love you” and I’m sure he got a big up-close-and-personal blast of Mrs. Doctor Morning Breath right up the nose holes.
Not cool, husband! I know you like to kiss me and I’m very, deeply grateful for that fact. And I know that you are not only a realist but also a doctor, and so understand that I can not always breathe roses and chocolate. But there is NO EXCUSE for putting yourself in the line of fire, monster-breath-wise.
* Speaking of “monster-breath-wise,” I like to add “-wise” on to lots of terms. For instance, we bought a pumpkin and have not yet carved it because we have yet to settle on a subject for the carving. So I might say, “Have we made any decisions, pumpkin-wise?” Or when I get sick of looking at the socks on the couch, I might mention to my husband, “It looks like we have little infestation, sock-wise.” Or if I’ve instructed my husband add oregano and basil to the spaghetti sauce, and he pours in twice as much oregano as basil, I might say, “I think that’s enough, oregano-wise.” You get the idea.
The point is, whenever I do, my husband always says, “bidet-wise” and we dissolve into giggles. I suspect that this is not the case in YOUR household. But it SHOULD be. So please watch this SNL skit and add “bidet-wise” to your vocabulary.
P.S. We do not own a bidet.
* We got a pumpkin! Let me show you it.
It is sitting patiently on our counter, waiting for us to carve it into something amazing. Or… a couple of triangle eyes and a lopsided mouth.
I actually hate carving pumpkins. The guts gross me out, as does the smell of the guts. But I do enjoy eating roasted pumpkin seeds.
* It shocks me to type this, but I have exercised seven days out of the past eight. And by “exercised” I mean 6 of those days I actually went to the gym and ellipticaled for 30 minutes to an hour until sweat was rolling down my forehead and puddling in my sports bra, and the seventh day I lifted weights (read: eight-pound barbells) until my arms were as limp as cooked spaghetti (read: two sets of 25 in four different arm exercises). And I am sticking FAIRLY closely to my calorie goals, except on Saturday when I had a date night with my husband and ate an entire personal pizza and drank two beers.
It may not sound like a big deal… And I know one week is nothing compared to making this an actual real-life daily habit… But this is the first time I’ve exercised with any regularity since before my wedding… And it feels pretty good.
* My big fake Thanksgiving cooking plans did not come to fruition this weekend. First of all, I realized that my husband was on call on Sunday. And since I didn’t want to grocery shop on the same day I did my Thanksgiving cooking, I decided to postpone it until next weekend. Secondly, I am lazy.
This gave me time to do some turkey recon. Our local grocery store has plenty of turkey options, including turkey separates. My husband like this idea better than the idea of me making a whole turkey. (Thanks for the vote of confidence, Husband!) He thinks we can do a breast or two and be good to go. I agree that this might be easier and also less wasteful (neither of us eats dark meat, and he doesn’t think his parents do either), but there’s something untraditional to me about buying some spare parts and putting them on a plate. We’ll see.
Anyway, all the turkey options at my local grocery store are injected with a salt/water solution. Which I don’t want. Fortunately, Whole Foods has turkeys that are only injected with water. So Whole Foods it is! I can also call them and reserve a turkey. So I don’t have to elbow any other Thanksgiving chefs out of the way come November.
* I felt so good about myself this past weekend that I went to the mall. It’s pretty amazing how one is able to find clothes that do not make one want to shoot oneself when one is feeling awesome. One being me, obvs. I even – horror of all horrors – decided to try on some skinny jeans.
I may have some body dysmorphia, Internet, but I know that some chicks out there who are wearing skinny jeans – and ROCKING them, might I add – have a few pounds on me. So I figured, why the hell not?
I grabbed a pair at Express, in my current size, and then psyched myself up by trying on a pair of normal bootcut jeans which looked awesome. (Awesome except for the fading. There was a big ol’ faded patch right on the caboose, mainly between the two, um, train cars. [That metaphor fell apart waaaaaay too quickly. I apologize.] It looked as though I were perhaps a dedicated farmer who spends weeks and months on the metal seat of an old-timey tractor.)
Anyway, once fortified by the normal bootcut jeans, I tried on the skinny jeans.
Internet, it was like trying to don a couple of those novelty balloons that you can turn into wiener dogs and giraffes. In other words, it was pretty likely that something was going to pop.
I had to literally – and I do not use that word lightly – peel the jeans from my thighs and calves. I had a moment of panic that I’d have to call in the sales gal for help. (Luckily, that moment passed.)
Moral of the story: Everyone on the planet may look good in skinny jeans, but I am going to steer clear of those suckers.
Have a fabulous Tuesday, Internet!

omg, i was laughing so hard at the skinny jeans. i remember trying some on a while back and thinking “oh good lord if anyone sees this i will die” and proceeded to peel them off faster than ever.
surprisingly though… GAP has some really cute skinny “jean” leggings that are really flattering on a lot of different body types. you should try those out!
Favorite parts:

6. “there’s something untraditional to me about buying some spare parts and putting them on a plate.”
7. The ENTIRE PARAGRAPH about the skinny jeans.
Bullet comment!
Funny you should mention the exbook. I have an ex – my most serious ex of all time, before my husband – who treated me extremely poorly (think “thief” and “abuser”). HE is absolutely NOT on my Facebook friends list, but guess who DID add me the other day? His WIFE. She sent this message about not having animosity and wanting to have intelligent conversations with other intelligent women, but I see right through her. She just wants to keep tabs. Why? I don’t know. But that’s what I think. But because of the crazy he put me through, it’s painful for me to even see his name. I’ll probably have to block her soon.
Wow, long story. =/
Girl, I stay away from the skinny jeans. I do not even want to see what I would look like in them.
As far as FB, hubby does not have a profile, but I have one. He has my log in, so basically he can go in and check/snoop on other people out there in FB world. LOL. I do not have any ex’s on there at all. I really do not even want to know what is going on in their lives. We are all friends and if I see them out in public, I will speak, but that is it.
Vee … that’s just weird … could it really be him pretending to be his wife?
*When we first moved here from Italy my Dad went to Lowes and got new bathroom appliances/fixtures/whatever you call a toilet, sink, bathtub, etc. His purchased included a bidet. Growing up my friends would always ask what in the world that thing was – I had guys even ask if they could pee in it. Seriously. There will never be a bidet in my future home. I don’t care how Italian I am.
*Skinny Jeans scare the living daylights out of me. I look at them and cringe. No, I’ve never tried a pair on and don’t plan on it.
*The “ex” thing is something we’ve been dealing with lately. My ex from highschool is someone I’ve kept in contact with to the present – we went to the same college, and he was my best guy friend. Russ isn’t so much a fan of this. I understand – I wouldn’t like the idea of him having a best girl friend that isn’t me. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix the situation so everyone can be happy!
Skinny jeans look good on Giselle. And 12 year old girls.
That is about it. I refuse to even ATTEMPT to try them on. My legs are the thickest part of my body and I like to hide them at all times….
Exes. Very sticky situation. I absolutely refuse to be on FB or MS due to this very reason. I know a lot of people utilize these social networks to keep in touch with friends. I prefer to just pick up the phone. I like the fact that I’m not on these sites – that way no tabs can be kept on me!
I think I should make posts out of some of my bullets but it never works. That’s why they end up as bullets. 🙂
I deleted my ex’s off facebook. They mostly were facebook stalking me and I’m not that interested. I creep on them every once and a while if they get brought up in conversation. Then I thank my lucky stars I found T. 😉
I tried on some skinny jeans last week. I look about 12 years old in them. And very very emo. It’s not really a great look. I’ll stick to my boot cuts for now 🙂
Hell no I don’t have any of my exes on FB. I keep getting friend requests from people who barely spoke to me in high school, and I’ve ignored them too.
Your post about exercising inspired me to nag my husband into exercising in the morning with me. We got up nice and early on Monday, put on the Power 90, discovered how weak we are. Today….we slept in. Le sigh. Try again tomorrow.
I have had 2 serious relationships prior to meeting my current boyfriend (we’ll call them A and B) and I’m friends with both on facebook and friends with their new serious girlfriends, too.
Relationship A was a 6 year relationship that started in high school and went through college. As we grew up, our life goals changed and we didn’t want the same things anymore. Our relationship just kind of dissolved, no huge painful breakup. He lives down the street from me now, we go for walks together when nothing else is going on. His new girlfriend is really sweet and I wish the best for both of them.
Relationship B… well, he was just a relationship clutz. He would say hurtful, insensitive things all the time without intending (e.g. he bought me a cute t-shirt and, as I admired it, said “I ordered it online, you might want to try it on because I’m not sure it’ll fit you, it looks a little small” Gee, thanks. For the record, it fit with more than enough room to spare). I tried my best to make him happy, but he only ever focused on the negative and eventually I just told him that it was time for me to give up. Again, no huge painful breakup, just “this isn’t working.” Like above, his new girlfriend seems like a total sweetheart and either she must be a saint to put up with him, or maybe he’s learned a thing or two about tact and patience over the past 2 years.
So yeah, both of them meant something to me, both changed my life, and I like to know what’s going on with them. If either of them had hurt me or done something terrible (like in Vee’s case), I can see not wanting anything to do with them, but that wasn’t the case here, so why not keep in touch?
I tried on some jeans that turned out to be skinny jeans, and I had the same peeling problem. I don’t think I was even able to pull them up past my knees.
I like carving pumpkins, but I have never roasted pumpkin seeds. Just a little fact about me for you.
I see how cooking just turkey parts might seem un-Thanksgiving-y, but it seems like a good idea to me.
I don’t have anyone I consider a significant ex, so not a problem there. My husband is friends with 2 exes on Facebook- one is crazy, and one is dumb as a box of rocks, so I’m not too concerned. However, the crazy one sent my husband a message recently to let him know that she just got divorced. I am willing to bet her next message is an invite for my husband to go out to dinner or something with her. Good times!
I’m not friends with my big ex on facebook. We’re friendly and send each other notes on our birthdays, but that’s it. He could friend me on facebook, but I’d probably deny it. Not to be mean, but I don’t need everyone to know my business.
Yeah on the workouts!! That’s awesome. When things become part of your daily routine, they really do become, well, your routine. And yay for feeling good about yourself! The two are definitely related.
Re: skinny jeans, I thought I had this in the bag because I bought a pair of “slim” jeans at AT Loft a few weeks ago. I thought they were super flattering — not my usual boot cut but not the painted-on quality of jeggings. The hubs has since told me he doesn’t like the color as they are super dark and almost look black. I ignored him, what does he know? This weekend, my super stylish sister, however, told me they were weird because they looked like baggy skinny jeans. Worse, she said, “you look like you took a dump in them.” She had me try on a pair of her favorite skinny jeans and they were actually pretty awesome! And from Mandee’s of all places. I’m not kidding! I’m totally going to have to make a trip there.
I refuse to even touch skinny jeans. I cannot wait for that trend to pass. To me, they’re right up there with short shorts.
I concur with Andi – try some skinny jean “leggings” they are really comfortable and I i bet you would look great in them! But I still love the boot cut too – can’t go wrong!! That’s so sweet of your Hubby and you in the mornings and the “cardinal” rule! haha so cute. We simply do a tap in the morning as if to say “I’m leaving, but I love you enough to tell you!” 🙂 Love reading your randomness… 😉
The first bullet is hilarious. As are all the rest.
It’s just the first is my favorite.
(Yes, I play favorites.)
(I’m going to make an awesome mom.)
On the exes thing, I am friends with most exes on Facebook. Of the three serious relationships (two high school, one LONG one in college) I am friends with two of the three. The first boyfriend I ever had has decided I am still evil for not loving him back when I was 16, and sent me a VERY emo email two years ago saying he would no longer have any contact with me.
DRAMA QUEEN.
But everyone else is still fine.
We don’t chat persay, but we’re friendly.
I congratulated my high school boyfriend on Facebook when he got engaged and all was civil.
Exes are weird…
You’ll be proud of me, because I worked out yesterday morning. I was so excited!
And that pumpkin is pretty awesome. I haven’t gotten mine yet. I should get on that.
I met my husband my freshman year of college, so no college boyfriends to worry about. I am friends on FB with the one semi-serious high school boyfriend, but we have mutual friends and I’ve run into him occasionally. I don’t look at his page or anything, so maybe there’s really no point in being friends on fb anyways. My husband on the other hand, while the girls are from high school, in his small hometown, the girls think that if they held a guy’s hand then they have a claim to them. Which means that everytime we saw them out since we went to school in his hometown, i got the stink eye or they would flirt with him and one even started rubbing her hands on him and I almost had to kill someone, so he’s not friends with his exes because they would stalk him.
Anyways, when you are practicing Thanksgiving meals, can I come over and help you eat them? Especially the stuffing?? Yummmmmmmmm
We do the turkey breasts every year, much better than a whole turkey. They look fairly turkey like too.
I have not yet attempted the skinny jeans. I am curious though.
You go lady! Pretty soon you’ll feel weird when you don’t exercise!
Oh. You and your randomness! How I love all the thoughts that swirl around in that head of yours 🙂
Way to go as far as exercising. I know that I should join in on your “get fit” business but I am far to lazy and unmotivated. So I am going to watch you get in shape and maybe one day I will follow!!
(New, un-private blog up… I understand if you are tired of following me from one location to the next…)
Damn skinny jeans, they look ridiculous on me too!
I am not friends with any of my exes on Facebook, nor is my husband. But we also joined Facebook after we’d already gotten together, so it’s not like we had to decide whether or not to “unfriend” anyone, ya know?
And neither of us has any contact with any exes. At all. Even if they were good friends. It’s simpler this way for us, and we just acknowledge that they played an important part in our lives and now they no longer do. I think it’s up to whatever you and your significant other are comfortable with, because we just don’t care about spending time and energy on past romantic relationships-turned-friendships. But someone else might feel differently. It just depends on your relationship and viewpoint and what you’re comfortable with.
So, 1. my husband is friends with the last serious girlfriend he had before me. This is not really a problem for me, except for the fact that she looks eerily like me. I am not sure that it means anything except he clearly has a “physical type” which is quite the opposite of what he would tell you his physical type is. I am friends with 1 or 2 guys that I dated, but no one that was serious. The guys I am friends with became actual friends instead of boyfriends. I never stayed in touch with actual boyfriends after we broke up.
2. Those lifelong habits have to start somewhere. Good job!
3. Pre-fading on the jeans was an invention of masochists or women who still shop in the children’s section. Also, I have some skinny jeans I like but why are so many of them so hard to get on and off? I thought maybe it was just me and my giant freak calves that couldn’t wear so many of the common brands.
I have a “no exes on FB” rule. My husband won’t even go on FB, so no issue with him. I just don’t see what good could come out of me snooping on an ex or vice versa. If we cared that much about each other, we’d still be together, right?
I am not friends with any of my exes on facebook. Dan and I have a rule that we just aren’t. I think its good though, while sometimes I am curious, its better to avoid the temptation.
