It is a gorgeous fall day. I am meeting two friends this morning for a walk and am too excited to come up with a “real” post idea, so here are some random questions you didn’t ask that I am going to answer. (Some of them I found online.) Please answer them yourself should you feel moved to do so.
If a song played every time you entered a room, which song would you choose? The first song that comes to mind is Suzie Q by Creedence Clearwater Revival. What a classic. Still slaps. But probably I would prefer Susanne by Weezer. Both because I do not go by Suzie Q, and because I adore Weezer. The only problem with the Weezer song is that the first time I heard it was while watching Mallrats, and Susanne is an orangutan.
What’s your most useless skill? Knot untangling. Despite being impatient about nearly everything, I have a high tolerance for picking away at an impossible knot. A tangled necklace chain, a snarled cat toy, a quadruple knotted shoelace: I am pretty confident I can return it to its original state.
What’s in your mental (or online, or actual) shopping cart at the moment?
- A Wednesday Addams costume for Carla – apparently, the eighth grade set still plans to dress up for Halloween.
- A tube of silicone sealant for the torn gasket in my fridge door.
- Several pairs of walking shoes to replace my current ones; the pair I have are pretty shredded, and my back has begun aching every time I go for a walk.
- More cream for my dry hands.
- A long navy cardigan.

“Thank you very much Miss Lippy!”
What movie quote/s is/are constantly at the tip of your tongue?
- “A Schooner is a sailboat, stupidhead.”
- “O’Doyle rules!” (And pretty much every other quote from Billy Madison.)
- “A watch doesn’t go with this outfit, Daddy!”
What is the worst thing you’ve ever worn? When I was a youth, I took a dance class that culminated in an annual recital. We wore sequined costumes and performed elaborate routines to pop songs, mainly, for unknown reasons, those by Michael Jackson. The worst thing I’ve ever worn was one of those costumes. It was a full-piece onesie made of fire engine red Spandex. My mullet-adjacent haircut did not help matters.
From whom are your 5 most recent (non-spam) missed calls?
- The house painter.
- The house painting company.
- The roofing company.
- The roofing company.
- The mom of one of Carla’s friends.
Now it’s your turn:
- If a song played every time you entered a room, which song would you choose?
- What’s your most useless skill?
- What’s in your mental (or online, or actual) shopping cart at the moment?
- What movie quote/s is/are constantly at the tip of your tongue?
- What is the worst thing you’ve ever worn?
- From whom are your 5 most recent (non-spam) missed calls?
Good morning! I haven’t been able to see your blog for awhile (I read on my work break and I’m not sure why but it was inaccessible). I’ll play your game:
I now have that song stuck in my head, Colleen! And remembering song lyrics must be important – or else why would I remember so many from bad songs from high school?
Too – ra -loo-rye -ay…
Ugh, I’m sorry you haven’t been able to access the blog. Thanks for giving it another try — hopefully whatever the issue was has resolved???
LOVE Come on Colleen. Fabulous.
Wait a second. You don’t answer the phone unless it’s a close family member??? Like, ever???? What if it’s the dentist? Or… now I’m trying to think of someone who calls me. Do you just operate on the principle of “they will leave a message”? I find this fascinating, Colleen!
I also remember song lyrics for no reason…and now I have Toora, loora, toora, loo-rye-ayeeeeee….Colleen I’ll hum this tune forevvvvver!
This is such a fun post, Suzanne! I love learning these random little things about people. I might have to borrow this idea for my own blog sometime!
Also, I’m laughing at your useless skill because I could definitely use someone with your patience when it comes to untangling necklaces. And now I’m trying to decide what song should play every time I enter a room. That’s a surprisingly difficult question!
Yes, please borrow away! I miss your posts!
Bring me all your necklaces, Kari! I will get them ship shape in no time.
I can’t think of a song, but I did wear many atrocious shirts with huge shoulder pads. I looked like a linebacker! Most of my skills with grammar are useless. I can conjugate most French verbs in a multitude of tenses.
Oooh I love your conjugation prowess! That’s a good one. I am terrible at conjugating French verbs, and can never remember which tense I’m supposed to be using.
And away we go…
Ooh, I don’t often see others mention Loreena McKennett. Nice!! ❤️🤌
Knowing how to iron is a great skill. I am TERRIBLE at ironing. Laughing over here about the long winded coach. That is definitely a good reason to let a call go to voicemail.

Library holds skillz are not useless — I would LOVE to be better at the library holds game! I’m pretty good, but not great — especially when it comes to having a ton of books come in all at once.
Oh my gosh, I can totally picture your 80s picture day fit. At one point I owned a turquoise three piece — baggy long sleeved top, mini skirt, and stirrup leggings — that I loved to pieces. The 80s was a confusing time.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH MISS LIPPY
Well, you KNOW I love that. Also “That Veronica Vaughn is one piece of ace.” And “Everyone in this room is now dumber from having listened to it.” Oh! Let’s not forget my all-time favourite “If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis.” On to the questions!
I love that you have such encyclopedic knowledge of both song lyrics and movie/TV quotes! I do sympathize with having the song play in your head though — although with me, it’s usually just a loop of whatever fragment of the song I know. An endless, maddening loop.
Random posts are the best posts! I don’t think of you as a “Suzie” at all, but I love Suzie Q as your theme song.
I feel like my most useless skill is being able to carry on an entire conversation in movie quotes! “I was misinformed” from Casablanca is probably my most frequently used.
Um, pictures or it didn’t happen for your Michael Jackson costume! THE INTERNET DEMANDS PROOF!!!
That is an excellent quote!
Birchie, I cannot provide you or anyone with this photo. It is truly horrid. Somehow my husband has seen it… but how??? I do think it made him question his decision to marry me though, if only briefly.
This is fun but I am TERRIBLE at these. The only useless skill I can think of is I can say “warning there is a detour” in German. In the 70’s I was driving/camping through Germany and this was the phrase of the day on the English Air Force station. I was about 21 and it still hasn’t left me.
Oh worst outfit, also early 20’s and I’m embarrassed even to type this here. I had never been on a golf course but decided to join the women’s fun tournament from my work. I work very short shiny shorts and a tank top. This was 50 years ago and I still remember some of the looks I got. Oh god. I am mortified- I have never talked about this, ever.
Your “useless skill” is hilarious! I love that.
I am full of indignation for Early 20s Pat! One of your colleagues should have given you a heads up that there was a dress code! I wouldn’t have had a clue how to dress, either, and I am sure Early 20s Pat felt cute and sporty. Neither she nor you should be the least embarrassed. xxoo
Ha – great song choice! That is a banger for sure, and ALL eyes would be on you!
Thanksgiving – yikes. I am not ready to think about that at allllllll.
This is fun!
Great song!!! That one is such a bop.
Hahaha – I DO know how far you had to go to find a non-spam call because it’s exactly how far I had to go! So much spam! It’s dreadful!
How fun! I love your answers!
Woot woot! Great song choice on many levels! I giggled that you are a turd magnet, but I am also very sorry to hear that you are a turd magnet.
I can picture the Jane Fonda outfit, and I bet it was hot, Michelle! Perhaps it was Of the Time, but I am 100% sure you rocked it.
How fun! I am also an impatient person who can untangle a knot. Also I think that Colleen and Nicole and I should start a rock group, as we can all sing words to random songs. I bet that would be fun. Unlucky for me, my voice is terrible…but I know all the words!
YESSSSS I am a huge fan of Eminem’s early work and Lose Yourself is a great one. I also like how you are using the song to pump yourself up, rather than to try to get other people to like you (ahem, totally wasn’t doing that with my song choice at all…).
Recent movies are overrated.
I am HORRIBLE at remembering movie quotes, but my husband in particular could practically live his life only speaking in movie quotes. How does he remember so many things in such granular detail (maybe because he’s not worried about staying on top of signing kid forms and making sure we have enough TP in the house).
Another thing that’s funny to me is how often I’ve realized that a turn of phrase he uses that I thought was “original” is actually from a movie. He doesn’t try to hide it, he just weaves quotes into life so often and even now after 17 years of marriage, at least a few times a year I’ll really some catchphrase I thought was “his” was actually from a movie.
Anyway, I didn’t even answer ONE of your questions, but this is immediately what it made me think of 🙂
Hahahaha — it cracks me up that John has (accidentally) convinced you that all these catchphrases are his. I need to see that in action, for sure.
I love this prompt! Let’s do ittt.
If a song played every time you entered a room, which song would you choose? Karma by Taylor Swift. Muahaha. I just love it so much.
What’s your most useless skill? I can remember dates (like anniversaries, birthdays, etc) SO WELL. I worked at a daycare in college and had every birthdate memorized of the kids in my class.
What’s in your mental (or online, or actual) shopping cart at the moment? I need to buy a birthday gift for a friend. That’s all I have right now because I just came back from a 10-day trip so my bank account looks very sad.
What movie quote/s is/are constantly at the tip of your tongue? I quote Liar, Liar and Tommy Boy almost constantly with my mom and brother. Like, on my trip, I spilled some peanut M&Ms and quoted, “Well, that’s really gonna help the resale value!” Other quotes, “No, it has to be YOUR bull.” “Brothers don’t shake hands, brothers gotta hug.” “What’s my family doing in there?”
What is the worst thing you’ve ever worn? Not sure about this one! I was dressed like a clown for my first Halloween, full makeup and everything.
From whom are your 5 most recent (non-spam) missed calls? The place I get massages to tell me my therapist wasn’t coming in (wah), my doctor’s office, my gynecologist’s office, my rheumatologist’s office, and my mom. So many doctors calling me!
Knot untangling is a very useful skill!
