It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like…

Just two weeks ago I was feeling all content and gloaty because not only did I have Thanksgiving under control, I was also out ahead of Christmas. By which I mean, I either had already purchased something for most people on my list or at least KNEW what to purchase for them.

And then all of a sudden it’s December and I haven’t made ANY progress further on Christmas ANYTHING.

Pretty much every blogger I read is trilling about holiday activities… Or showing off glorious photos of  Christmas decorations… Or reveling in the pride that she has finished her Christmas shopping or sent out cards or what have you.

And it’s got me kind of panicky.

In our home, the only signs that Christmas is nearing are a glass hurricane filled with cinnamon-scented pine cones:

And a few bottles of Christmas ale:

It is at this point that I feel strangely attracted to the idea of boycotting Christmas altogether.

However, I love Christmas. So I think I need to set aside an afternoon – today, perhaps! – for tracking down some holiday cards that don’t make me want to barf, writing them to the spirit-lifting tunes of Christmas carols, and decorating our apartment. (Which doesn’t take long, because there’s really only the one room to decorate and our fake tree is both pre-lit and tiny.)

Tomorrow, my husband actually has a day off, so we shall spend a chunk of it shopping for the final items on our list.

No need to panic. There’s PLENTY of time left.

Right? RIGHT?

  1. I saw those scented pinecones in the store and I wanted to buy some. My tree however is so fragrant that it would probably drown out the smell. 🙂

You’ve got lots of time. I haven’t even looked at Christmas cards yet! Eek!

  2. I feel like the season is crunched this year because of our trip. So we’re not putting up decorations or a tree or anything. I did have Christmas cards in the mail last week and of course, there’s a Hidden Mickey on my front window of the townhouse. 🙂 But yes, it’s only the fourth. You have plenty of time!

  3. I normally don’t order Christmas cards until December 22nd, but I am feeling awesome because I already ordered AND received my cards. I still haven’t addressed them or put up a single decoration in my entire house, but you are right, there’s plenty of time!

  4. If you are finishing tomorrow, you are way ahead of the game. I secretly always disliked people that would proclaim they were done shopping for Christmas in October, but now I am finding myself want to be one!

  5. You are too funny! And I can’t believe that’s exactly what I’ve done so far – a really pretty glass hurricane filled with cinnamon-scented pine cones on my dining room table – but it’s pretty big so I have a few shiny ornaments mixed in as well.

But I did make out a list tonight and I’m going shopping tomorrow – one of my favorite stores is having a major sale tomorrow and I have a *coupon* for an additional 20% off…so, I’m hoping to get most of my shopping done.

But, you still have lots of time – don’t worry 🙂

  6. I’m putting up our tree today! We have a fakey that I got off Craigslist and I love how the twinkling lights put me in such a good mood. I usually buy Unicef or other charity cards and love sitting down to write them. My family is all over the globe and Christmas cards are sometimes my only communication with distant cousins. Have fun Christmasing it up this weekend! And I thiiiink I have narrowed down your alma mater to a few places 🙂

  7. It didn’t take me long to decorate our house for Christmas – roughly 2 hours max. that’s what happens when you live in a tiny apartment and all the decorations end up going in one room/area haha
I’m weird, so I love Christmas and I’m always ready for it way before it actually gets here. Well, not “ready” with all the purchases but ready mentally.
You have plenty of time. No fretting yet.
